Fun in the sun: Our top summer pet care tips

Share Article

Spring is in full bloom, and summer is only a bone’s throw away – the perfect opportunity to spend more quality time outdoors with our pets. From sun safety tips to fun activities, we’re sharing our favourite ways to make the most of the warmer, brighter days ahead.

Keep your pet hydrated

The first rule of any summer adventure with your pet is to keep them hydrated. Whether the sun is shining and you’re taking those paws outdoors or the clouds are out and you’re having an indoor play date, your furry friend should always have access to fresh, clean drinking water.

Have a pet picnic

What’s a warm day without a picnic? Let your four-legged friend in on the fun with pet-friendly treats, and give your dog the perfect hydration boost with a homemade ice lolly that is sure to get their taste buds tingling. Looking for another fun activity? Treat them to a game of fetch or tug-of-war.

Cool off

As much as we love a heatwave (no longer such a rarity here in the UK), your cat or dog might not be so keen. Explore cooling mats and accessories to keep your pet safe and comfortable during the warmer months. Sprinklers and paddling pools will make a real splash during long summer days in the garden.

Embrace summer scents

Summer can bring out the most wonderful of scents – and sometimes your pet can bring home the not-so-wonderful ones, too. Eliminate those pesky smells with a gentle dog shampoo that can clean up even the muckiest of pooches. Odour and stain removers are also a great secret weapon for tackling accidents. They’re safe to use around pets, using enzymes to break down stains and pheromone blockers to discourage repeat offences.

Get in shape

When the sun is shining, there’s only one place where we want to be with our pet – outside! Master the game of catch with our collection of dog toys, ranging from football and tennis balls to frisbee. Or keep your cat entertained with an interactive cat toy – our feline friends especially love puzzle treat dispensers.

Hit the road

Whether you’re driving your pet to the vet or your holiday destination (meaning they’re in for the long haul), get your pet from A to B with our travel essentials, including car restraints and carriers, water bowls and bottles, plus calming supplements to make your journey a pleasant one for everyone.

Use parasite prevention

Fleas, ticks, and worms are a serious pain in the backside. To make the job easy, we recommend setting up a Repeat Order of your pet’s parasite treatments so you never miss a dose. We also like to treat our home with a household spray, which will help break the flea life cycle (just never use these sprays directly on your pet).

Summer is all about making memories with the people and pets we love most. Whether you’re planning garden playdates, road trips, or lazy days in the sunshine, a little extra care can help keep your furry friend happy and safe throughout the warmer months.
