For us pet owners, warmer weather can only mean one thing – flea season. So, to help you take charge of parasite prevention, here are our top tips to stay one jump ahead of fleas.
1. Treat your home
95% of the fleas in your home will be in your carpet and furnishings, rather than on your pet. Yep, that surprises us too.
Household flea sprays, washing bedding and cushions where your pet sleeps regularly at high temperatures, and lots of hoovering (sorry!), will do the trick to keep them at bay.
2. Treat all your pets
Treat all your pets with a spot-on treatment or collar, even house cats and rabbits. Just take care to always read the label carefully and only ever use a parasite treatment for animals listed on the label (the wrong dose can be dangerous to your pet).
3. Keep it up
Use parasite control treatments regularly, all year round. It’s a myth that fleas and ticks are only a warm-weather problem. This is why vets recommend you treat your pet with a spot-on protection every 4-6 weeks.
Parasite prevention is an important part of keeping your pet healthy and happy. While it may seem daunting at first, keeping fleas and ticks away is easy when you know how.
